The classification system “Codes of Municipalities, Communities and Quarters of Cyprus” refers to the statistical coding system of the local territorial units (municipalities, communities and quarters) of Cyprus. The classification system of the geographical coding system was prepared in collaboration with other competent Services and Departments and aims at its broadest possible use.

The geographical classification pertains to the administrative districts, the municipalities, the communities and the quarters. The names of municipalities/communities and quarters are the official names which have been determined by the Cyprus Permanent Committee for the Standardization of Geographical Names in the Greek language and transliterated in Roman characters.

The coding system covers the whole of Cyprus, both the Government controlled area as well as the occupied part of the island, and it reflects the situation at the specific time period during which it was prepared. The monitoring of the evolution in the local territorial units is continuous and the coding system in question is revised accordingly.
