Methodological note on the Retail TradeTurnover Index Scope The aim of the survey is to collect monthly turnover data from the enterprises falling under division 47 of Nace Rev.2 (Statistical Classification of Economic Activities of the European Union). The objective of the Turnover Index is to show the development in the retail trade sector . Data refers to the government controlled area of the Republic of Cyprus. Data collection Data collection starts one week after the end of the reference month by telephone or personal interviews, by fax and by e-mail. Compilation method and dissemination practices Turnover comprises the totals invoiced by the enterprise during the reference period and this corresponds to market sales of goods or services supplied to third parties. Turnover includes all duties and taxes on the goods or services with the exclusion of the VAT invoiced but with the inclusion of all other taxes and duties on the goods. The Turnover Value Index is compiled at current prices. The volume of sales represents the value of turnover at constant prices. The Turnover Volume Index is calculated by deflating Turnover Value Index using CPI (Consumer Price Index) indices. The index is based on year 2010 (i.e. average 2010=100) . The weights used are derived from the annual wholesale and retail trade survey 2010. Enterprises with 10 or more persons employed are surveyed exhaustively. Sample survey for smaller enterprises. The Retail Trade Turnover Index follows the provisions of the Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 and Amendment Regulation 1158/2005 concerning short-term statistics and it is published in its gross form (neither working day nor seasonally adjusted). The index is transmitted to the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat) and also published on the official website of the Statistical Service.
