Methodological Note on the Turnover Value Index of Transport, Storage and Communication

Aim The quarterly Turnover Value Index on Transport, Storage and Communication calculates the turnover changes of the enterprises, classified under the
Sector I (NACE 60, 61, 62, 63 and 64) of the NACE (Rev. 1.1) Classification of the European Union.
It is a value index concerning short-term statistics for the turnover and its changes in the broad Transport Sector.
Collection of Data The collected data refers to the Turnover of enterprises winch are engaged in the Transport and Communication Sector. Data is collected on a monthly
sample basis, by telephone or personal interview, by e-mail or sending the questionnaire by fax. The index is established every quarter and is published within three months from the reference quarter.
Coverage The Turnover Value Index covers activities classified under the Sector I (NACE 60, 61, 62, 63 and 64) of the NACE (Rev. 1.1) Classification of the European Union. Data refers to the government-controlled area of the
Republic of Cyprus In particular:
· Land, Water and Air Transport · Auxiliary activities such as Tourist Agencies, Parking Places, Storage e.t.c.. · Postal Services, Telecommunications and Internet Services e.t.c.. The Sample
The Sample is selected on a PPS basis (probability proportional to size) with the employment of each establishment being the measure of size. A sample of establishments with 5 or more persons and a small sample of establishments with less than 5 persons are covered. The 2000 Registration of Establishments provides the first Sampling Frame for all activities, which is readjusted with the 2005 Registration of Establishments.
Method of calculation and publication of the data
The collection of the data is recorded in the computer for data processing, analyzing and reporting, using the Microsoft Access program.
The base year for the index is 2000. This means that the index shows the current evolution of turnover in relation to its average value in the year 2000. In the base year, the average of the turnover index for the four quarters is set to 100. For example, an index of 113,25 implies that turnover has gone up by 13,25% in relation to the average turnover of 2000.

The Turnover Value Index on Transport follows the provisions of the Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 concerning short-term statistics.
