Methodological Note on the National Carriage of Goods by Road Survey Aim The aim of the national carriage of goods by road survey is the collection of statistical data concerning the carriage of goods by road by means of goods road transport vehicles, which are registered in the government – controlled area of the Republic of Cyprus. The Survey is carried out according to the Council Regulation (EC) No 1172/98 in the context of the common transport policy. According to the Statistics Law No 15(1) of 2000, the Statistical Service treats all the data collected as confidential and is used solely for statistical purposes. Coverage The Survey is carried out on a sample basis around the year from road transport vehicles whose load capacity is more than 3 tonnes. The sample The sample is selected from the Vehicle Register of the Transport Department amongst those vehicles which identity with a load capacity of more than 3 tonnes. The sample consists of 9 categories (stratums) according to the load capacity of the vehicle and the type of transport (Hire or reward and own account). The survey covers 31 vehicles every week. Unit of Enumeration The unit of enumeration is the goods road transport vehicle. Reference Period The reference period for the data collected is the week. Collection of Data The data is collected through telephone and personal interviews around the year by trained enumerators Data Processing After the data entry of the questionnaires, quarterly datasets and supplementary tables are transmitted to Eurostat for validation, data processing, analysis and dissemination. Quarterly results of the survey are presented in the Statistical Service’s website. The annual results are published in the report «Transport Statistics». Last Update: 19/10/2006
