Methodological note on Cereals, Vines and Crops Production Surveys Aim All surveys aim at collecting primary data for cultivated areas, production and its use, for main agricultural products (vines, cereals and crop production). The surveys are considered necessary for monitoring the developments and the formation of National and European common agricultural policy. Coverage The unit of enumeration is the agricultural holding, which was defined as a single unit by technical and economical view, which has single management and which produces agricultural products. Data collection The surveys of Cereals, Vines and Crop Production are carried out on a sample basis annually. More specialized surveys concerning vineyards and permanent crops are held every five years. The sample of each survey is drawn from the Agricultural and Livestock Holdings Register of the Statistical Service. The data is collected by enumerators through personal/telephone interviews with the holders. In compliance with the Statistics Law 15(I) 2000, the Statistical Service is obligated to treat all data collected as confidential and uses it solely for statistical purposes. Compilation method Based on the sampling method and the responses to the surveys, weighting factors are computed and applied to holding’s row data, in order to produce statistical data that reflects Cyprus as a whole.
