Methodological note on the Price Indices of Selected Construction Materials The objective of the Price Indices of Selected Input Materials in Construction is to show the evolution of the cost incurred by the contractor. For the preparation of these price indices, the Statistical Service conducts a monthly survey for a sample of suppliers. The reference date for the prices collected is the 15th each month. If the 15th is not a working day then prices are collected for the closest working day. Prices are valued excluding V.A.T. and delivery charges. Besides construction materials, an index is calculated also for gas oil with the difference that prices are collected every Thursday from a sample of petrol stations, within the context of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The price indices are based in 2000, meaning that they show the evolution of the price of a certain material in relation to its average price in 2000. In the base year, the average of the price indices for the twelve months is 100. For example, a price index 112,35 for a material in a certain month implies that the price has gone up by 12,35% in relation to the average price of 2000. For the prices indices of selected materials, we provide the following additional information: · For the Crushed Sand, the Crushed Gravel and the Gravel and Sand Aggregate, the index refers to selling prices on the truck at the quarry premises. · For the Bricks and the Ordinary Portland Cement, the index refers to selling prices on the truck at the factory premises. · For Iron, the index refers to selling prices on the truck at the warehouse of the supplier. · For the Ready mixed concrete, the index refers to the selling prices for delivery to a building site of a radius up to 10 km from the factory. · For Bitumen Asphalt, the index refers to selling prices (including delivery) at the buyer’s premises. · For Gas oil, the index refers to selling prices in petrol stations. Note that the price index for gas oil is not included in the calculation of the aggregated index.
