Description The survey provides information on the participation of residents of Cyprus aged 15+ in domestic and outbound trips. Data on the duration of trips, destination, purpose of the trip, main means of transport, main means of accommodation and expenditure are collected for each trip.
Method The Survey on the trips of residents is a sample survey that covers all residents of Cyprus aged 15 years and over. The sample selected is a stratified random sample, using the five districts and urban/rural areas as strata. A random sample of households is selected in each stratum.
The household list of the last Population Census is used as the sampling framework.
Data collection is conducted by telephone interviews with the use of an electronic questionnaire designed with Blaise software.
The data collected refer to the number of residents who participated in domestic and outbound trips for personal purposes, as well as to the number of trips for either personal or professional purposes. Information on the destination and purpose of each trip, the main type of accommodation used, the expenditure by type (transport, accommodation, food and drinks in cafes or restaurants, other expenses) is primarily collected. Some demographic characteristics are also collected for the persons selected in the sample, regardless of whether they have travelled during the reporting period or not.
