Collection and compilation of data about construction projects, such as construction costs by type of building, the area, the characteristics of dwellings by district, etc., in order to monitor developments in the construction sector and particularly in the housing sector.
Survey, with personal interviews with the owners, architects and contractors, on a sample basis of projects selected from all building permits issued using stratified sampling. The strata are determined by the type of project, the size and the district.
The Building Permits and Housing Survey covers projects which include addition of covered area, as described on the building permits authorised by all local authorities (Municipalities and District Administration Offices). The statistical unit of the survey is the project and the population includes the following types: (i) Residential, (ii) Commercial, (iii) Residential/Commercial, (iv) Residential/Services, (v) Residential/Industrial, (vi) Residential/Agricultural, (vii) Hotels, (viii) Hotel Apartments, (ix) Holiday Apartments, (x) Services, (xi) Industrial, (xii) Agricultural.

The results of the Building Permits and Housing Survey are included in the report "Construction and Housing Statistics". A report (publication) is available for each of the years 2003-2016. Summary results are disseminated on the web site of the Statistical Service.
The data are comparable over time.
