Description Statistics of Education present the results of the annual survey on education. Information is provided regarding the number of educational institutions, pupils/students, graduates, teaching and non-teaching personnel etc., for each level of education separately. Data related to the finance statistics of education are also presented.
Method In the framework of the annual survey on education, a census to all educational institutions that provide Formal Education is conducted, in the Government controlled areas. Data are collected from all educational institutions, public and private. Data are also collected from administrative sources, for teaching personnel as well as for the financial data on education.
Data Coverage It covers all educational institutions, in the Government controlled areas, which are registered at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, as well as all the Day Nurseries registered at the Social Welfare Services. These amount to about 1.350 educational institutions, 200.000 pupils / students and 15.800 teaching staff.
The statistical unit of the survey is the educational institution.
Frequency The survey on education is conducted in an annual basis.
Data Availability The results of the Education Statistics are announced with a relevant Press Release. Data are available in the form of time series covering the years 1970-2018, as well as predefined tables with detailed data for the years from 2015/2016 to 2018/2019, on CYSTAT's website, as well as in the form of interactive tables on CYSTAT's online database, CYSTAT-DB. Available reports (publications) exist from the year 2002/2003 until 2014/2015.
Data are also available on the Eurostat's website.
Comparability Over Time The data are comparable over time.
Principal Variables Data are collected on each level of education, pupils/students by sex, age, nationality and fields of education. Also, data are collected about the teaching and non-teaching personnel by sex, age, position and type of employment (full/part time). Additionally, data about current and capital expenditure on education are presented, by educational level (public/private).
