The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the general price level of consumer goods and services consumed by the average household. The CPI is used to measure inflation, wage adjustments, etc.
The CPI is compiled following a series of techniques such as the use of a single classification system (ECOICOP ver.2), the choice of the type of calculation of individual indices, the geographical and population coverage, the coverage of goods and services, and the common base year (2025=100), etc.
The CPI covers the final monetary consumption expenditure of the household sector, by resident households only. More specifically, the CPI covers prices of goods and services in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos. For each city, the monthly price fluctuations per product and service are weighted according to the population. Prices are recorded on predetermined dates during the month, except for fruits, vegetables, meat and fuels, whose prices are collected on a weekly basis.
Monthly
The CPI is announced on the first Thursday of the month following the reporting month with a relevant press release and, at the same time, the data are updated in the online database CYSTAT-DB on CYSTAT's web Portal.
