Data description The survey on ICT Usage in Households and by Individuals is an annual sample survey. Its main objective is to collect data on the access of households to selected Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), on the use of Internet, use of e-government, e-Commerce, Privacy and Protection of Personal Data, Trust, Security and Privacy and Smartphone Security and Internet of Things.
Method The sampling frame used was the 2011 Population Census Frame which has as reference date the 1st of October 2011 and thus the problem of timeliness may exist. In order to tackle this problem the Population Census Frame is updated with the domestic consumers of electricity that were connected after the Census, obtained from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus. However, the information of 2011 Population Census Frame has not been updated. The information of 2011 Population Census Frame will be updated with the results of the next Census in 2021. The sampling method used was one-stage sampling in urban areas and two-stage sampling in rural areas. All individuals, aged 16-74, within each sampled household were selected. The survey is usually carried out using CAPI with face to face interviews. The survey type was changed in 2020 from face to face interviews using CAPI to telephone interviews using CATI due to Covid – 19.
Data Coverage The survey covers the total population of individuals living in private households only with at least one member aged 16 to 74. It does not cover persons residing in collective households (i.e. institutions, homes for the aged, hospitals, monasteries etc.). The statistical unit is households with at least one member aged 16 to 74 for Module A and individuals aged 16 to 74 for the rest of the modules.
