The classification system “Codes of Municipalities, Communities and Quarters of Cyprus” refers to the statistical coding system of the local territorial units (municipalities, communities and quarters) of Cyprus. The geographical coding system has been revised as a result of the Local Government Reform which took place on 1st July 2024, based on the Law 52(I)/2022, in collaboration with other competent Services and Departments and aims at its broadest possible use.
The geographical classification pertains to the administrative districts, the municipalities, the communities, the municipal quarters and the quarters. The names of municipalities/communities, municipal quarters and quarters are the official names which have been determined by the Cyprus Permanent Committee for the Standardization of Geographical Names in the Greek language and transliterated into the Latin (Roman) alphabet.
The coding system covers the whole of Cyprus, both the Government controlled areas as well as the occupied part of the island, and it reflects the situation at the specific time period during which it was prepared. The monitoring of the evolution in the local territorial units is continuous and the coding system in question is revised accordingly.
