Latest Figures: Labour Force Survey - Main Results, 1st Quarter 2014

According to the results of the Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the 1st quarter of 2014, the number of employed persons amounted to 358,3 thousand (males 184,2 thousand and females 174,0 thousand) and the number of unemployed persons to 72,8 thousand (males 39,5 thousand and females 33,3 thousand).

The employment rate for persons aged 20-64 was 66,2% (males 70,9% and females 62,0%) recording a decrease from the previous quarter of 2013, 67,0% (males 71,9%, females 62,5%) and the corresponding quarter of 2013, 67,4% (males 72,9% and females 62,3%).

The unemployment rate amounted to 16,9% of the labour force (males 17,6% and females 16,1%) recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2013, 16,0% (males 17,2%, females 14,6%) and the corresponding quarter of 2013, 15,8% (males 16,2% and females 15,4%). Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 39,6% of the labour force of the same age group remaining at the same level from the previous quarter of 2013, 39,4% and recording an increase from the corresponding quarter of 2013, 37,5%.
