Latest Figures: Turnover Value Index in Transport and Storage, 1st Quarter 2018

The Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage for the first quarter of 2018 recorded a decrease of 0,5% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2017.

By economic activity, an increase of 107,7% was recorded in air transport, 24,2% in water transport, 9,2% in postal and courier activities and 4,0% in land transport, whereas a decrease of 7,2% was observed in warehousing and support activities for transportation over the corresponding quarter of 2017.

Note that, as from this release, the Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage is presented with 2015 as a new base year (instead of 2010). The change of base year every five years is usual practice that aims at better reflecting changes in the structure of the sector of Transport and Storage that had taken place over the five-year period. This procedure involves an update of the weights used for the calculation of the index and changes in the sample of enterprises.

Data for the Turnover Value Index of Transport and Storage with the new base year (2015=100) have been calculated for all years as from 2015 onwards and are presented in the Archive of Key Figures. In the Archived Key Figures, users can also find data with the previous base years: 2010=100, 2005=100 and 2000=100.
