LATEST FIGURES: LABOUR FORCE SURVEY – MAIN RESULTS, 4th QUARTER 2008

According to the results of the Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the 4th quarter of 2008, the number of employed persons amounted to 385,7 thousand (males 213,8 thousand and females 171,9 thousand) and the number of unemployed persons to 13,4 thousand (males 6,5 thousand and females 6,8 thousand).

The employment rate for persons aged 15-64 was 71,1% (males 79,2% and females 63,2%) and remained at the same level as in the previous quarter and the corresponding quarter of 2007.

The unemployment rate amounted to 3,3% of the labour force (males 3,0% and females 3,8%) while in the 3rd quarter the rate was 3,6% (males 3,0% and females 4,2%) and the corresponding quarter of 2007 the rate was 3,5% (males 3,0% and females 4,1%). Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 9,3% of the labour force of the same age group while it recorded a decrease from 10,2% in the corresponding quarter of 2007.

For the whole 2008 the unemployment rate was 3,7% as against 3,9% in 2007 while the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 decreased from 10,2% in 2007 to 9,0% in 2008.
