Latest Figures: Labour Force Survey - Main Results, 4th Quarter 2013

According to the results of the Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the 4th quarter of 2013, the number of employed persons amounted to 376,5 thousand (males 194,8 thousand and females 181,7 thousand) and the number of unemployed persons to 71,7 thousand (males 40,4 thousand and females 31,2 thousand).

The employment rate for persons aged 20-64 was 67,0% (males 71,9% and females 62,5%) remaining at the same level with the previous quarter of 2013, 66,9% (males 72,7%, females 61,7%) and recording a decrease from the corresponding quarter of 2012, 69,8% (males 75,6% and females 64,4%).

The unemployment rate amounted to 16,0% of the labour force (males 17,2% and females 14,7%) recording a decrease from the previous quarter of 2013, 16,2% (males 16,5%, females 16,0%) and an increase from the corresponding quarter of 2012, 12,7% (males 13,2% and females 12,2%). Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 39,4% of the labour force of the same age group recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2013, 38,5% and the corresponding quarter of 2012, 32,0%.

For the whole 2013 the unemployment rate was 15,9% in comparison to 11.8% in 2012. A more detailed analysis of the survey data is presented in the description that accompanies the main results tables.
