LATEST FIGURES: LABOUR FORCE SURVEY – MAIN RESULTS, 4th QUARTER 2006

According to the results of the Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the 4th quarter of 2006, the number of employed persons amounted to 362.081 (males 201.898 and females 160.183) and the number of unemployed persons to 16.034 (males 7.751 and females 8.282).

The employment rate for persons aged 15-64 was 70,4% (males 79,8% and females 61,4%) and remained at the same level with the previous quarter while it recorded a small increase from the corresponding quarter of 2005.

The unemployment rate amounted to 4,2% of the labour force (males 3,7% and females 4,9%) while in the 3rd quarter the rate was 4,0% (males 3,0% and females 5,1%) and the corresponding quarter of 2005 the rate was 5,2% (males 5,0% and females 5,5%). Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 was 10,5% compared to 14,1% in the corresponding quarter of 2005.

For the whole year 2006 the unemployment rate was 4,5% as against 5,3% in 2005. A more detailed analysis of the survey data is presented in the description that accompanies the main results tables.
