Latest Figures: Labour Force Survey - Main Results, 4th Quarter 2012

According to the results of the Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the 4th quarter of 2012, the number of employed persons amounted to 389,1 thousand (males 203,7 thousand and females 185,4 thousand) and the number of unemployed persons to 56,7 thousand (males 30,9 thousand and females 25,7 thousand).

The employment rate for persons aged 20-64 was 69,8% (males 75,6% and females 64,4%) remaining at the same level with the previous quarter of 2012, 70,0% (males 76,3%, females 64,2%) and recording a decrease from the corresponding quarter of 2011, 72,1% (males 77,5% and females 67,2%).

The unemployment rate amounted to 12,7% of the labour force (males 13,2% and females 12,2%) recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2012, 12,1% (males 12,3%, females 11,8%) and the corresponding quarter of 2011, 8,9% (males 9,8% and females 8,0%). Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 32,0% of the labour force of the same age group recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2012, 26,4% and the corresponding quarter of 2011, 26,0%.

For the whole 2012 the unemployment rate was 11,8% in comparison to 7.9% in 2011. A more detailed analysis of the survey data is presented in the description that accompanies the main results tables.
